It is a long story. Ten years ago at a Quinquennial Visit the surveyor raised the need for the harling at the front of the church to be replaced. The late Dr Malcolm Alexander and his committee spent two years researching exactly what was needed, exploring sources of funding, and completing very lengthy grant application forms. This work was just coming together when covid struck. By the end of covid it was found that some of the survey findings and grant applications were no longer valid and much of the paper work had to be revisited. The team did it all again and then the legal issues of the union between UCB and Trinity caused further delays. The new Property Convenor and Committee picked up the baton and have at last completed the last hurdle. Well done to everyone involved.
This essential work has been funded by a combination of the congregation of the United Church of Bute, the General Trustees of the Church of Scotland and HES (Historic Environment Scotland). Because of the need for lime mortar to be used the work is very weather / temperature dependent and we pray for good weather for the rest of the summer.
The extensive work required to upgrade the former Trinity Manse is also being undertaken.
So, watch out for the scaffolding – it will be hard to miss!
